I hosted The Beguinage on NeoCities from April to July 2025, then moved to Nekoweb. I've been making static webpages for licherally 20 years, first on Neopets, then putting Tumblr themes on PasteBin, then abusing GitHub Pages for my non-tech portfolio while all my peers used Squarespace. Ultimately:
So this is where I plan to be as ugly and brutalist and Old Web as can be.
Calling this yam because of its favicon and because I addressed the most annoying thing about v3: manually adding to my blog Atom feed and archive.json for fanfiction with the help of my frenemy YAML.
I also got to know Jinja2 better and am really having a whale of a time with using Python in my templates, like slicing the first five posts/fics for the index and .strftime() for dates.
I experienced scope creep with this, I think, when I decided to add Every Basil Hawkins after Tumblr nuked him and Every Perona. But before that, it served me well for as long as I intended to have an aggressively plain text website.
My attempt to do small web "properly" with ugly /pos backgrounds and bounded <div>'s, but looking at a month and change without Git commits, I clearly didn't like it very much, or at least saw it as something not in need of iteration. I also hadn't started crossposting one-shots yet.
I doubled up stylesheets for this, so I had a base sheet, then additionally linked one specifying colors and backgrounds. You can imagine I found this exhausting! And even then, I used web colors throughout.
This was, tbh, mostly ripped from my first Neocities mutual, Pithosian Palace. Besides the very cool Vagra Pixel Large, this is the beginning of me phoning it in and declaring system monospace.
This version actually followed me to Nekoweb, so in total its tenure was almost three months exactly.
If my Git log is to be believed, this only lasted 10 days. It had a deceptive sysfetch-style landing page before a bright, serif website. These fonts are Cozette Vector (later IBM VGA 9x16) and Junicode.
